Many patients wear braces or other orthodontic devices to correct a misaligned smile for purely cosmetic reasons. However, others have severe alignment issues that may cause headaches, jaw pain, or issues with chewing and speaking. Overlapping or crooked teeth can also be difficult to clean property.
Dr. Mandel offers a variety of orthodontic treatments to address the diverse needs of his patients. He begins with a comprehensive consultation to determine the best treatment. Among the options he may recommend include:
Traditional braces use wires, bands, and brackets, which are tightened at regular intervals, to guide your teeth into their correct positions.
Fastbraces® use high-performance brackets and wire which are adjusted and torqued from the first day of treatment to guide your teeth into the correct position. Fastbraces® treatment typically lasts less than a year and some patients only wear Fastbraces for a few months.
An Inman Aligner® is a removable orthodontic device that uses two nickel springs that guide two aligner bows that oppose each other. The springs exert gentle force over a wide range of movement allowing for quick and effective treatment. Inman aligners can be used on their one or as a pre-treatment for other dental work like veneers.
Ortho-tain® is another removable orthodontic option. Patients as young as five through adulthood can wear these retainers to correct the alignment of their teeth. Ortho-tain® devices correct issues like overbites, underbites, rotated teeth, crowding, and excess space. The benefits of Ortho-tain® treatment include being able to take the retainer out to eat and clean your teeth, so you don’t experience any of the restrictions associated with wire and bracket braces.
The length of time you’ll need to wear braces depends on the severity of your alignment issues and the type of orthodontic treatment you use. Traditional braces may need to be worn for up to three years and some of the alternative treatments can straighten teeth in just a few months. Dr. Mandel will discuss your options and help you to make the best decision for your teeth and lifestyle. Call or schedule a consultation online today to learn more.
